Volunteer Tax Preparers
The United Way Prosperity Campaign needs volunteers to prepare income tax returns for wage earners and retirees who have low to moderate incomes. The average income level for clients served by our program is about $20,000.
Last year, our ten locations prepared over 7,000 tax returns for Pasco County residents. Over $850 thousand in Earned Income Credits and Child Tax Credits were received by our clients.
We prepare and electronically file these returns using the same computer software used by CPA’s and many professional tax preparation firms. Our volunteers are trained by IRS staff and certified volunteers to prepare tax returns covering the most common tax situations. Some of our volunteers use the experience gained in our program to work as professional tax preparers, but most are happy to just help those in need.
If you are proficient using computers, have an interest in learning and can spare about eight hours a week from mid January to April 15, we would like to talk to you about our program. Prior experience doing your own tax returns or as a tax preparer would be helpful, but it is not necessary. Each year we train volunteers with no prior tax preparation experience and turn them into tax pros!
Tax Site Client Facilitators
Each free tax preparation site needs volunteers to greet the clients, make sure they have the necessary information and assign them to a tax preparer. If you enjoy meeting people and would like to assist in making our tax sites a smooth running operation, please consider volunteering in our program. Client facilitators often go on to become tax preparers in the following year, but some have served in this position for many years.
Call Center Appointment Schedulers
Volunteers are needed in our Pasco County 211 Call Center to make appointments for clients seeking to have their income taxes prepared at one of our ten locations. Volunteers must have good communication and computer skills. Call center volunteers answer incoming calls, enter information in our scheduling database and make outgoing calls to remind clients of their appointments.
To get more information or to volunteer, please contact Kristen King at United Way of Pasco County at 727-835-2028 or send an email to taxvol@earthlink.net |
